Courmayeur, strictly kosher
on the Italian side of Mont Blanc
Courmayeur sits at about 1,225 m in the Aosta Valley, where the Mont Blanc tunnel comes out on the Italian side.
Its pedestrian centre is a short walk from the lifts, the ski area climbs to about 2,750 m, and the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car rises to Punta Helbronner at 3,466 m. Mishpacha Tours organises the kosher side of your stay here: a private chef in your chalet, hot meals delivered to your apartment, Shabbat, the holidays, and a minyan and a Sefer Torah for your dates. One request, one written quote.

What we organise in Courmayeur
A chalet or apartment with a private chef. Our kosher team based in the Alps makes the kitchen kosher and cooks on site. In winter you come back from Checrouit or Val Veny to a set table; in summer, from the trail in Val Ferret.
Meals delivered in the valley. Hot meals brought to your chalet, apartment or hotel for the week, for a family or a group, with notice. Tell us if you sleep in Courmayeur itself or in Entrèves, La Saxe or another village of the valley.
Shabbat. Shabbat meals, challot and wine delivered on Friday and set before candle lighting. Nothing is delivered on Shabbat or on a holiday.
The holidays. Hanukkah, Purim, Pesach or Sukkot on the Italian side of the mountain. Tell us which holiday falls in your week.
A minyan and a Sefer Torah. No Jewish community lives in the Aosta Valley that we could find, so a minyan here is built from the families who write to us for your dates. Give us your dates early and we group them.
A tailor-made stay, A to Z. Chalet, chef or delivered meals, transfers, Shabbat, the holidays, a minyan: one request, one quote. Families and groups from abroad are our core, including large groups and Hebrew-speaking guests. For a very small group asking for one delivery only, say so and we tell you what is feasible.
Strictly kosher.
Our kosher team based in the Alps cooks under the Chabad network of the Alps.

Kosher in Courmayeur
Supervision is rarely stated, so check before you book.
Kosher hotel, restaurant or shop in Courmayeur. None found. The restaurant listings of the town and of the Checrouit slopes mention vegetarian and gluten-free menus, never kosher. Plan to bring your food or have it delivered.
Chabad house or synagogue in the Aosta Valley. None found for Courmayeur or for Aosta. The Jewish presence nearest to you is in the cities: Turin, about two hours away, has an organised Jewish community, and Milan has a Chabad centre that hosts Shabbat meals, about three hours away. On the French side, the nearest Chabad presence we know of is in Megève: see kosher in Megève.
The other side of the tunnel. Chamonix is 11.6 km away through the Mont Blanc tunnel and has no Chabad house either. If you hesitate between the two, read kosher in Chamonix. The services we organise are the same on both sides.
Winter and summer in the valley
Winter. The ski area is split in two: Checrouit, with a cable car from the town up to Plan Checrouit at about 1,700 m, and the wooded Val Veny on the other side. The top lifts reach about 2,750 m, and the whole area is compact. Meals are timed around your ski day and the early sunset behind the Aiguilles.
The village. Via Roma is pedestrian, with shops, cafés and the evening walk between the lifts and dinner. For a family with small children, no car is needed once you are in the centre.
Skyway Monte Bianco. The cable car leaves from Courmayeur, stops at Pavillon du Mont Fréty and climbs to Punta Helbronner at 3,466 m, on the Italian flank of the massif. Dress for winter even in July.
Summer. Val Ferret and Val Veny both feed the Tour du Mont Blanc, and walkers use Courmayeur as a base from June to September. Packed lunches for the trail can be prepared with notice.
Minyan and Shabbat.

Getting to Courmayeur
From Geneva airport: about 118 km, roughly 1 h 45 to 2 h by the Mont Blanc tunnel, the closest major airport. The tunnel charges a toll, and queues form on winter Saturdays.
From Turin airport: about 150 km by the A5 motorway through Aosta, roughly 1 h 45 to 2 h. This route stays in Italy.
From Milan-Malpensa: roughly 190 to 215 km, 2 h 30 or more depending on traffic. There is no train to Courmayeur: the line ends at Aosta, and a bus covers the last stretch.
From Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport: about 3 hours by the A43, the A40 and the Mont Blanc tunnel, which makes Courmayeur one of the Italian resorts nearest to Lyon. Lyon suits long-haul flights and a first kosher shop before you climb: Lyon, the gateway to the Alps.
Crossing the border. France and Italy are both in the Schengen area, so there is no passport control at the tunnel, only the toll booth. Carry your passports anyway.
Land in Lyon with a few hours to spare? The Stopover: a private 3 hour tour of Jewish Lyon between the plane and the road.

Kosher in Courmayeur: questions
How much does it cost?
It depends on the dates, the number of people and the menu. You receive a written quote before you commit.
Can you deliver kosher meals to a chalet in Courmayeur?
Yes, for a family or a group, for the week, with notice. Send your dates, the number of people and where you sleep in the valley, in Courmayeur, Entrèves or elsewhere.
Is there a minyan in Courmayeur?
A minyan depends on how many families are there that week, in winter or in summer. Give us your dates early and we group them, with a Sefer Torah.
Is it better to stay in Courmayeur or in Chamonix?
Both sit under Mont Blanc, 11.6 km apart through the tunnel, and the services are the same. Courmayeur has the pedestrian centre and the Italian side of the ski area; Chamonix has the Aiguille du Midi and the French valley. Tell us what your family wants and we say what is feasible.
Do I need a visa or a passport check to go from France to Courmayeur?
France and Italy are both in the Schengen area, so the tunnel has no passport control, only a toll. Travellers who need a Schengen visa need one valid for both countries.
Who supervises the food?
Our kosher team based in the Alps cooks under the Chabad network of the Alps. The supervision details come with your quote.
